Al Sears Biography
Born : February 21, 1910 in Macomb, Illinois.
Died : March 23, 1990 in New York City, New York.
The first and important engagement as musician professional Al Sears found him in the orchestra of Chick Webb (1928) replacing Johnny Hodges, following the it played with Elmer Snowden (1931 -'32) and among 1933 and 1941 it was leader in own his groups, for then to unite in the first years 1940s with the orchestra of Andy Kirk (1941 -'42) and of Lionel Hampton (1943 -'44) in 1944 it replaced Ben Webster in the orchestra of Duke Ellington of which Sears became one of the best soloists.
Left Duke in 1949 (he was replaced by Paul Gonsalves), Sears played with Johnny Hodges (1951 -'52). Subsequently it recorded excellent launchings albums to his name.
