Southern soul singer

Born on 4th January 1946, in McIntosh, Georgia, U.S.A.

Died on 17th November 2003, of intestinal cancer, in Ruurlo, Netherlands

Started his career with the group Arthur And The Corvetts. After releasing three singles at National Recording Corporation in Atlanta, he went solo releasing one single at Baltimore's Ru-Jac Records. Otis Redding signed him at his own label Jotis Records where he released two singles. After some more singles at Fame (3), he went at ATCO Records where he he had a string of hit singles until the early 70's that he moved to Capricorn Records. His biggest hit is "Sweet Soul Music". In 1975 he relocated in Europe, first in the U.K., then in Belgium where he recorded one single and then in the Netherlands. He legally changed his name to Lee Roberts (6) in 1980 - his middle name and his mother's maiden name. In 1980 he released an album with the name Lee Roberts And The Sweaters, recorded on 8 January 1980.
