Edwin Sanchez

Edwin Sanchez Biography

Edwin Sanchez, a pianist, arranger and producer, was born and raised in the inner city of Chicago where he grew up learning music at a very early age. Edwin had the privilege of playing music at the Puerto Rican Congress, a not-for-profit after school program designed to support artistically gifted urban kids. Through this program, at the tender age of seven, he was practicing and performing with a group of young kids called “La Juventud Tipica.” This experience led to Edwin’s first recordings at the age of nine with the likes of Machito, Mongo Santamaria, and Ramito. From that youth stemmed a history of groups and artists Edwin performed with such as La Tipica78, La Confidencia, Gino Picart, La Crema, La Distinguida, Flamboyan (Jibarito), Jesus Enriquez and many more local Chicago bands.

Being of Puerto Rican descent and having been raised in the Humboldt Park area, Edwin had access to that unique blend of Puerto Rican, Soul and Jazz music made available through radio and the culture-filled neighborhoods of Chicago.

Edwin is now an accomplished musical director, arranger, producer and musician within the music genres of Salsa, Latin Jazz, Mambo, Pop and R&B. Edwin has worked with countless musicians and singers from Puerto Rico to California and in between, that are considered to be tops in their respective fields. A few of those artists include but are not limited to:

The Latin Giants of Jazz: A group comprised of musicians from the late Tito Puente Orchestra that play compositions from Tito Puente, Machito, and Tito Rodriguez – keeping the tradition of the big band era alive.

La India Orchestra: In a class by herself, a Latin songstress from New York with a band comprised of a five-piece brass section, two-piece rhythm, three-piece percussion and background singers.

The Tito Nieves Orchestra: A salsa icon from the east coast with a band comprised of a five piece brass section, two-piece rhythm, three-piece percussion and background singers.

The Ray Sepulveda Orchestra: Another salsa icon from the east coast still performing and traveling performing his hits around the world.

Jimmy Bosch Orchestra: Trombonist of Marc Anthony for many years during his prime beginnings.

Edwin has worked playing piano on various shows around the country with artists such as La Mulenze (Puerto Rico), Johnny Rivera (Puerto Rico), Michael Stuart, Johnny Pacheco, Cano Extremera, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Domingo Quinones, Rey Ruiz, Dave Valentine, Cheo Feliciano, Yolanda Rivera, Frankie Negron, Victor Manuel, Brenda K.
