Freddie Keppard Biography

American jazz cornetist, trumpeter and bandleader.

Freddie Keppard is regarded as the first worthy successor to the great cornetist Buddy Bolden.His first professional engagement found him nell'Olympia Orchestra (1906) and then a freelance business in New Orleans, moved to Los Angeles (1914) with its Original Creole Band and later moved to Chicago (early '20s) worked with Doc Cook, Erskine Tate, Ollie Power and Charles Elgar.Keppard recorded between 1923-1927 with the Jazz Cardinals now in decline and undermined by alcoholism had lost much of his art, died of tuberculosis at the age of 43 anni.His brother Louis (1888-1986) was a jazz guitarist.
