Jan Savitt Biography

American bandleader, musical arranger, and violinist. Jan Savitt was born in Shumsk, Russia on September 4, 1907. Trained as a Classical violinist, he joined The Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of 19. He is best known as the bandleader of Jan Savitt And His Top Hatters, which had several Big Band hits in the late 1930s.



Jan Savitt died in Sacramento, CA on October 4, 1948.
