Last Burning Embers Biography
New York's Last Burning Embers are an atmospheric post-punk band in the spirit of Mission of Burma, the Sound and Killing Joke, as well as later bands like Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel. Vocalist Ben Voss, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter David Burokas, drummer Jack Rabid (Springhouse, The Big Takeover) and bassist Tom Burke (Slambook) formed the band in 1997. After making their debut on a tribute to The Sound, the band was struck a major blow in 1999 with the death of Voss, who
fell victim to Leukemia. Opting to continue, the remaining three renamed themselves Last Burning Embers, a more agreed-upon and descriptive moniker for the group. The release of the band's first EP, Distress Call, coincided with a November 2000 date opening for the Buzzcocks at Maxwell's in Hoboken. The bands debut full-length is slated for release in early 2002. ~ Andy
