MILLIGRAM

Hello MotherFucker!

The cast:

Darryl Shepard ù Guitar playing. A sordid past (Roadsaw, Slapshot, Slaughter Shack, Headcleaner) and a shady future. The man has a æ78 Volare. He doesnÆt

drive it. He just owns it.

Zeph Courtney ù Drums and incremental-chemical-auto-assisted suicide. The masterminder of Chevy Heston. Former Cymbal Destroyer in StompBox. 168 IQ.

Bob Maloney aka Robert Malonet (say: ro'-bare mal'-o-nay) ù Low end revival. Also of Headcleaner. A human Swiss Army Knife. Graphic Design, Highway

Signage, Email, Alcohol, and a bicycle. Geezer's stunt double in Black Salad. What else is there?

Jonah Jenkins ù Vocalizations and metadata. Broke up Only Living Witness and Miltown. Big Mouth. Total Prick. I mean, you canÆt help but hate this asshole.

Juan Perez ù Juan Perez

ITÆ S FuckinÆ FLAG DAY, 1999.

Milligram is contacted by an associate of the nefarious Juan Perez. Milligram is told to assemble on a street corner by the biggest pothole in Lower Allston. There is no explanation. The associate

speaks of a long flowing "beard of fire", money, and fame beyond the wildest of any drug-induced imaginations. The associate is laughed at, then he is preposterously beaten. Beard in mind, Zephan

speaks first, softly and calmly, in the deepest, most mellifluous of voices,

"I say we find this Perez-fuck and tell himàstraight to his goddamn beardàexactly what happened to his messenger."

THE NEXT DAY: Darryl awakens in a bus stop, mustache like Chuck Norris, and hung (over.) The 6AM Boston public transit system breathes diesel life into his burning nostrils, and he pretends that

he likes what heÆs smelling. Or maybe it's his mustache.

FLASHBACK: All he remembers is that heÆd left in a flurry of broken bottles.

THE PRESENT: He spits at some random roadkill, "WhereÆs my 78 Volare NOW, MOTHER FUCKER?!"

DREAM SEQUENCE 1: A 5ive second fistfight scatters a room full of Aaron Spelling fans. Jonah packs the van and leaves, disgusted.

DREAM SEQUENCE 2: An amplified exchange of words in a nightclub in Cambridge, Massachusetts sends Jonah to a hospital with torn ligaments in his shoulder. CokeDealerÆs Harlem Greenwood

laughs and points.

DREAM SEQUENCE 3: Bass guitars fly from an Alaskan volcano. Clouds part in a magenta sky, planets align for Cliff BurtonÆs briss.

WEEKS LATER: Our heroes meet Juan Perez in their practice space.

Juan: "You can record this thing across the hall at New Alliance, with Andrew æBarbaroÆ Schneider for all I care. I ainÆt paying you shit for it, but IÆll put it out. Now fuck off."

[mg] (in unison) : "deal."

THE MISSION: To bring new meaning to the word synonymous.

Milligram All Music Guide Biography

Boston's experimental hard-rockers Milligram were formed in 1996 by ex-Only Living Witness vocalist Jonah Jenkins and guitarist Darryl Shepard, a one-time member of both hardcore band Slapshot and stoner rock outfit Roadsaw. Initially something of a side project for both of them, the band only became a going concern two years later when bassist Bob Maloney and drummer Zephan Courtney were drafted to record the P.C.-averse Hello Motherfucker! debut. This was nothing compared to their follow-up, however, which they'd tentatively named Death to America and had planned to start recording on Sept 11, 2001. Obviously, that day's tragic events led to an immediate change of plans, and the group (now featuring new bassist Jeff Turlik) eventually finalized their renamed sophomore album, This is Class War in early 2002. Though they disbanded only a few months later, the fruits of Milligram's final sessions were thankfully snapped up by Small Stone Records and released posthumously in 2003. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide
