Pedro Winter

Pedro Winter Biography

Pedro "Busy P" Winter founded Ed Banger Records in 2003. With his 10 years experience behind Daft Punk, it was time to pass the knowledge to the kids. The idea of Ed Banger is to give unknown artists a chance. The music must be modern, but not only electronic. Labels like Mo'Wax in UK and Versatile in France were key influences behind the idea for Ed Rec. It all started with the futuristic hip-hop sound of Mr. Flash in 2003—"Radar Rider" was the label's first release. While everybody was competing for "big room club anthems," Ed Rec's mission was to bring back freshness and fun.

The label turned adult at the end of 2003. During a memorable cheese party, Winter met the two Justice kids. The label then put out Justice vs Simian "Never Be Alone (We Are Your Friends)." The record opened up the doors of cool clubs and smart record shops. On the b-side, another long time friend, DJ Mehdi gave Ed Rec a remix of Versatile's Chateau Flight. DJ Mehdi is the missing link between hip-hop and electro. He came up with the name of the label and his album "Lucky Boy" was the first Ed Banger release. After just two releases, Ed Rec started putting out an eclectic range of hip-hop, electro, house, and more from acts like Vicarious Bliss, Krazy Baldhead, Sebastian, and Uffie.

At the same time, Winter started the "Ed Banger parties," held at venues like Paris' Respect boat, London megaclub Fabric, Montreal's Club Savoy, and Tokyo's Ageha. There, they managed to get a mix of white b-boys dancing to house music, cute girls stage diving, and real hustlers wearing new-era caps break-dancing to noisy electronica.

Ed Banger Records won the MTV Music Europe Best Video Award 2006 for Justice vs Simian "We Are Your Friends," and both XLR8R and URB magazine have names them "Label of the year 2006."
