Ricardo Montaner Biography

Ricardo Montaner b. Héctor Eduardo Reglero Montaner on September 8th 1957 in Lanús, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since his boyhood, Héctor had a special feeling about the music. His family and him moved to Maracaibo, Venezuela, when Héctor's father took a job in an telephone company.

There in his new hometown, Héctor began to sing in the school choir; at 17, he joined in his first music band where he played the drums, but later their vocalist got sick and Héctor took his place. With a demo-tape, he started to promote his own music works in several radio stations. At 19, Héctor got married with his first wife, Ana Vaz and got 2 children from her. Next, he won a contest which allow him to sign his first contract, having to change his original name and became in Ricardo Montaner. As a exclusive artist of Sonorodven Records, he recorded his first album 'Cada día' in Venezuela (re-edited in 1994). But in 1986, his next album 'Ricardo Montaner' got more incomes in sells than the previous one. In only four month 250.000 copies were sold and Ricardo won 2 gold discs and a platinum one.

The lauch of his next album, 'Ricardo Montaner 2', in 1988 was acclaimed. Two of its songs 'Tan enamorados' and 'Sólo con un Beso' were first places in Billboard's Latin Charts. 'La cima del cielo' was the most awarded from this work, got several prizes around Latin America. He divorced from Ana Vaz and got married again in 1989 with Marlene Rodriguez Miranda, the daughter of the principal shareholder of Venevision Network. From that mariage 3 childred were born and Marlene took the job as his director and producer of Ricardo's video clips. After 2 following productions, Ricardo lauched 'Los hijos del Sol' dedicate to latin american children.

Ricardo created a foundation for support abandoned children, which is working with UNICEF and governments from different countries. In 1993 Ricardo left Sonoredven records and recorded with singer Michelle the principal song of the Aladdin's movie soundtrack . At the end of the year, he signed a contract with EMI Records and recorded the album 'Una mañana y un camino', produced and composed by himself, and lauched in 1994. Ricardo worked in the following album 'Viene del alma' as his last album with EMI, then, he signed a contrac with WEA-Records. 'Es Así', the promotional single of his eighth work, was lauched with a great expectation from his fans and got the first places in latin charts.

Considered as a versatile poet because of his skills writing lyrics, which describes beautiful scenes of daily life, Ricardo offers his services as a composer for some artist like Ricky Martin, Carlos Baute, Servando & Florentino, and so on. Nowadays he manages his own record company, Hecho A Mano, and support new talented figures.
