Steve Kilbey

Steve Kilbey Biography

Steve Kilbey is the singer, bassist and main lyricist of the legendary Australian band, The Church. Over the span of more than two decades, Kilbey has been one of the most prolific songwriters of our generations, in addition to The Church he has also collaborated with the late Grant McLennan (Go-Betweens) as well as a very accomplished poet and painter. His own creative musical tally outside of The Church includes six solo albums and numerous collaborative projects and production credits.

Painkiller marks Kilbey's first solo album from in seven years and arguably his best yet. The 11-track disc includes Church drummer, Tim Powles as well as other guests including Ricky Rene Maymi from Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Painkiller is vast and immediate, lyrically intoxicating, musically loose and rocking or spacious and trippy. It swings from delicate Psychedelic Pop songs to radiotronic Space Rock monsters. "The album stretches song structures and warps your mind through swirling highs and long comedowns."

Simply put, Painkiller is a masterpiece, the pump of sex, the swoon of drugs, the struggle of a man, a fix for the world in pain, a must listen for all Church or Kilbey fans.
