    Vonra Biography

VonRa (Von-Ray) formed in Orlando, Florida in 1992. With a lot of determination and tenacity, they rose to the top of the Orlando music scene by 1998. Now, in 1999, VonRa is poised to leave the local scene behind. With the recent hiring of Harrington Management team and several band member changes over the years, VonRa is now more ready than ever to make the tricky transition from local dominators to national beginners.

VonRa was first formed by brothers, Vaughan and David "Boo" Rhea. Vaughan sings lead vocals and plays rhythm guitar, Boo plays bass guitar and sings back-up vocals. In September 1997, VonRa released their first recording, a full-length independent CD, PANES. At the PANES CD-release party, VonRa was joined by drummer David "Tin Man" Tinny. Tin Man has delivered the beats for VonRa ever since. PANES went on to sell 6000 units. Panes has been discontinued now and are no longer available, but there is a new release due out soon featuring some songs from PANES as well as some of the new songs written since PANES. It will be titled VONRA and it will be distributed to record stores throughout the Southeast.

VonRa's strong points are exceptional songwriting, incredible lead vocals and awesome live performances. The songwriting duties are shared by brothers, Vaughan and Boo. Vaughan, the main creative force behind the band, has also co-written songs with their father, David sr. Vaughan's reedy vocals are VonRa's most identifiable aspect. Like a keystone, Vaughan's voice brings the music around him togther into a firm synergistic unit. The live VonRa shows are some of the hottest events in Orlando music. Playing mainly the top Orlando venues like Hard Rock Live, House of Blues and Sapphire Supper Club. In June 1998, Hard Rock Cafe bought Vaughan's white Ovation and it is now on display at the world's largest Hard Rock Cafe, Orlando's Hard Rock Live. VonRa shows are always packed and the fans always return the energy they receive from the stage. VonRa usually brings in 650-1500+ fans, depending on the size of the venue.

Currently, VonRa is a 5-piece band with the addition of Paul Smith on lead guitar and back-up vocals, who played back-up guitar for 7 Mary 3 on their most recent tour and album. The current lineup of VonRa puts on an electrifying show that is unmatched by any other local act.

VonRa has been fortunate enough to open for some major national acts as they swing through Central Florida. Most recently, they opened for 3rd Eye Blind at Hard Rock Live in Orlando. They have also opened for Sister Hazel, Bare Naked Ladies, Everlast, Fastball, My Friend Steve, Virgos Merlot, Bad Company, the Little River Band, Jeff Healey Band, Hall & Oates and Cowboy Mouth.

VonRa hopes that the leap to the national scene is a quick and successful one. They anticipate a major recording and publishing deal soon, but reiterates that they will take their time and select their options very cautiously. Just as patience got them this far, it will, in kind, land them a better deal.
