Zeeza Biography
Biography
Zeeza started to sing in her twenties while she listened to Patsy Cline,
Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Hank Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, and Edith
Piaff among others. She started writing poems and songs at the age of
13; she then learned to play by ear. During the late 80s and 90s, Zeeza
gigged with her acoustic guitar either solo or with a few other
musicians while she raised her family. Being so prolific, this
multifaceted artist became an indelible presence as an independent
artist. Her angelic bluesy voice has graced many styles of
music and her unique "free form vocal arts" and "breathings" have
contributed to a personal mystique that make her a very popular artist
on the internet.
Zeeza is now emerging from her 4 year self-imposed performing exile with
40 new acoustic songs. Her new repertoire is her most adventurous and
ambitious collection of songs yet. She does not compromise with respect
to emotional honesty.
Zeeza is recording a new album with phenomenal guitar player Harvey
"Snake" Mandel from the band Canned Heat; he also played with the
Rolling Stones, Santana, Jeff Beck and many more. Zeeza has not been
overlooked by music reviewers...Here is a small sample of their comments:
" Music you wont soon forget." "Impossibly original.".."
Zeeza is one singer/songwriter who just lays her soul bare for
listeners..." ..."captivating...enthralling"..."delicious sultry
voice"..."fearless and timeless"....."an absolute Diva"..."haunting chanteuse"..."extra ordinary
vocals"..."She just does it"..
Zeeza has quite a list of accolades, starting with being named one of
MP3.com's Top Alternative Acts of 1999, along with Anet (nominated at
the Juno awards in 1999). Zeeza was also recently chosen for the MP3.COM
Worldwide Compilation CD. Her video clip entitled "You're Always Trying
to Numb Me", has been downloaded over 43,000 times from the internet and
is now showing on Nerve TV (basement videos). The soulful, self produced
singer songwriter Zeeza will lure you into her mystical music world of
love and longing, seduction and spirituality. Zeeza's sultry voice,
along with her powerful song writing ability, produce a raw, original
feeling that is never lost in the studio - soulful and smooth, sweet and
bitter, bluesy with a deep emotional presence.
Her stage presence is also captivating...Critics have praised her
soulful, simple and charismatic stage presence. Today, she has over 120
songs to her credit. Through her stories, paintings and songs, Zeeza
traces her emotions with candor and enthusiasm. Her innovative vocal art
reminds us of the tones and styles of Patsy Cline, Joni Mitchell, Carly
Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Patti Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, O'riordan (Cranberries), Edith
Piaff and Kate Bush melted into one. She candidly writes exactly what she feels in
relationships, her suffering, her hopes, her spirituality, her life and
moments of love.
Zeeza plays guitar and produces much of her material. Her guitar playing
is an essential part of her sound. At the heart of the music of Zeeza,
is a constant sense of surprise and discovery. The lyrics, the melodies
and the harmonies rarely unfold in ways that our ears have come to
expect. The notes ring out in artistic clusters that simply don't come
out of a normal six string. Zeeza's voice adds another layer of
invention to each note, extending the harmonic implications of simple
chords and coloring the melody with charged poetic imagery. The way she
picks the strings is utterly different from how most guitar players
approach the instrument. Her unique, angelic, bluesy voice has graced
many styles of music from soul, blues, folk, rock and country, to Pagan
Celtic and Jazz. Zeeza's new CD will soon be available.
