"16 Candles" Crooner Johnny Maestro Dies - Doo-wop singer, 70, had cancer

Looks like the "16 Candles" have been extinguished, as crooner Johnny Maestro, born John Mastrangelo, has died. The 70-year-old singer passed away last Wednesday in Florida, after a battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Maestro's family.

Maestro's biggest hit was the 1958 song, "16 Candles," which he performed with The Crests. He continued to enjoy success as a part of The Brooklyn Bridge later into his career.

Does this news spark your interest in the doo-wop era gone by? If you're not already well-versed, we suggest you do so sooner than later. It was a great moment in music history.
