2012 Edition of Coachella to Take Place as Scheduled

Coachella festival fans can heave a collective sigh of relief or two! Coachella 2012 will go on as planned, so says LA Weekly. It was looking a little dicey earlier this week, with next year's edition threatened due to locals voicing their concern over how the fest affects the area. Coachella V. 2012 is also spread across two weekends, which also created some concerns amongst natives.
Following a vote by the Indio city council to approve the city's two-year contract with festival promoter Goldenvoice, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will take place as scheduled. The famed fest will spill over two weekends in April at Indio's Empire Polo Field. The fest, which is supersized this year, was in jeopardy due to locals posing environmental concerns, since with concert goers comes trash, noise and requisite "young people having fun" drama. However, the festival also brings revenue to the region, since the fest attendees have to eat, lodge and shop!
People in the neighboring city of La Quinta's city council pressured Indio officials into delaying the contract's approval. La Quinta. A lengthy environmental review that would have likely delayed both Coachella and Stagecoach was requested.
But things are back on and that's all that matters. If you're planning to attend Coachella next April, be respectful of the locals.
