The Global Poverty Project has opened registration for the 2014 Live Below the Line campaign and announced that Bridget Moynahan, Deborra-Lee Furness, Rachel Brosnahan, Jamie Geller, Bonnie Wright, Hunter Biden and Tamzin Merchant have committed to take the challenge by living on $1.50 of food and drink for one to five days between April 28 through May 2, 2014 to raise awareness about extreme poverty.
It's hard, don't get us wrong. But why don't you try it and support the cause?
Live Below the Line is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign that aims to spark dialogue about current victories in poverty reduction and engage people to empathize with the 1.2 billion people living in extreme poverty. It is an initiative of The Global Poverty Project, an advocacy and campaign organization, whose mission is to increase the number and effectiveness of people taking action to end extreme poverty by 2030.
Live Below the Line will benefit more than 20 leading nonprofits doing life-saving work throughout the world, including: The Global One Foundation, Heifer International, The Hunger Project, Kiva, Opportunity International, and World Food Program USA. When participants sign up to Live Below the Line, they direct their fundraising efforts to one of the participating partner organizations while rallying their social networks to help end extreme poverty within our generation.
This year, The Global Poverty Project aims to motivate tens of thousands of people around the world to participate in the campaign. In 2013, with 21,000 participants, Live Below the Line raised over $4.4 million globally, and gained support from celebrities, influencers, students, mothers, communities of faith, and world leaders.
Previous supporters of Live Below the Line include Ben Affleck, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hiddleston, Josh Groban, Malin Akerman, Dr. Jill Biden, Nick Lachey, Sophia Bush, Jonah Hill, Chef Carla Hall and Minka Kelly.
