She didn't just write you a love song...
Five-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles will release the book, Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song, a candid collection of essays to be published on October 6 by Simon & Schuster.
So she didn't just write you a love song, as she sings in her biggest hit. She also wrote a book, a book that we are absolutely going to read when it drops this fall.
Sounds Like Me will pull back the curtain on Bareilles' journey as a songwriter—sharing her process, as well as revealing both the joy and struggle that come with creating great work while staying true to yourself. That's a hard balance to strike in life, but Sara B. has it down pat. So we're excited to dive in and learn from her via her own words and prose.
The book will no doubt boast humor and will be marked by Sara's confessional writing style, which we are exposed to via her music. The book tells the inside stories behind some of her most popular songs and offers insights into finding balance between making art for herself and commercial music for her listeners.
Wow! Here are the three key reasons we want to read it!
• The beautifully designed book will include replicas of lyrics and a wealth of personal photos, making it a "must have" for any self-respecting Bareilles' fans that want a literal look at her life. Musician Ben Folds, who wrote the introduction, said, "For me, this book, like her songs, is having a conversation with the lady herself." So it'll be like the reader is having a convo with SB! Can't beat that… with a bat.
• Bareilles was brutally honest and open when sharing in her book. She said, "I was greatly humbled by the process of writing of this book. It feels infinitely more vulnerable to speak about my life without the metaphor and mask of music or my singing voice. I tried to be candid. I tried to remember things in an unbiased way. I tried to be at least a little funny. I tried to be myself, as whole-heartedly as possible. Sounds • Like Me is a collection of stories about my own self-discovery. Each essay is anchored by a song that helped me build a deeper understanding of who I am as an artist and person." Her fans will LOVE to get to know her on this deep of a level.
Speaking of depth… Bareilles goes deep about a variety of topics to keep the tome interesting, talking about the first time she heard Joni Mitchell's Blue album or how it felt to share the stage with Carole King at the Grammy Awards. In the book, Bareilles shares a privileged view inside her life and evolution as an artist. So you get a keyhole look at her lovely life, from her perspective. It's an all-access pass in book form.
Okay, so, yeah, we're down! We want to read it.
