The '90s are back in a big, big way. With Evan Dando of the Lemonheads embarking on a tour where the band plays It's a Shame About Ray in full, bespectacled cutie Lisa Loeb is also re-emerging.
That's right, '90s singer-songwriter Loeb, known for her hit single "Stay (I Missed You)," has not forgotten her early passion for reading musical books as a child and the joy it brought her to sing along with the songs and activities on each page. In her new book, Silly Sing Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs, Loeb definitely brings out her inner child by intertwining her early love of books, food and music as well as her recent experience with motherhood and packs them into 10 kid-friendly songs that even a parent can enjoy. Loeb encourages readers to "Turn off the TV for a few minutes (or hours), put down the PlayStation, and have some fun with me!" as she takes readers through a musical journey of "Sippin Cider" and eating snacks near the pool on a hot summer day in "I'm a Little Coconut."
In this whimsically-illustrated songbook, Loeb reaches out to the everyday mother who is perhaps trying to liven up their day, by creating family and kid-friendly songs and getting the kids involved in fun traditional activities, like singing, telling stories, cooking and all of it technology-free. Loeb also encourages kids to put their imaginations to the test in "Fried Ham" where she suggests each verse to be sung in a different, whacky accent (flaws and all) and assures those afraid of sounding off-key that "Worse is really just another word for sillier!"
This creative songstress offers a refreshing way to gear up the family for a great time that doesn't involve turning on the flat screen or plugging in the laptop. In fact, many of Loeb's songs were inspired by sitting around the swimming pool or involve traditional summer activities like baseball. Loeb leaves readers with a fun music and activity filled book to put on their to-do list as well as create a special bond with their children that they can remember for years to come.
