A Valley Son, lead by songwriter Trey Powell, is a band that reflects their home base of New York City. A band of southern transplants that grew up on Motown and Stax tunes, with a gospel drummer turned bassist, it makes sense that they'd find themselves creating southern gothic tunes infused with roots, old school rock 'n' roll and a kind of Sunday service vibe. Their debut EP, the strikingly good Sunset Park, brings together this eclectic range of influences and produces a cohesive statement of self and place that echoes the influences and exhibits the raw talents of a humble band.
