    • Aaron Lewis - In some ways, Staind's triumphant set at "Epicenter 2011" is emblematic of their journey. They were never into press posturing, awards show bullshit, or trying to be something they're not. They write timeless songs like "Eyes Wide Open", "Spleen", "Mudshovel", and "Something to Remind You" and kick teeth in when they hit stage. Isn't that everything a hard rock band should do? Well, they do it better than anyone… - Rick Florino

Staind singer Aaron Lewis sat down with ARTISTdirect.com for this exclusive video interview in Nashville and damn, does he have a lot of irons in the musical fire. He admits, straightaway, that he is "good at simplifying things, especially guitar chords" and that ability has served him well throughout the course of his enviable career.

Lewis, sporting a beard and wearing a hoodie, is instantly relatable to the the common man, and perhaps that's why his solo tours resonate so deeply with fans, as he is on the same plane. Lewis is reinventing himself as a singer-songwriter with rural roots who enjoys being a "weekend warrior" by playing tons of acoustic performances. It's impressive to see someone who has sold out arenas and graced the cover of Rolling Stone get back to basics and to remain connected to "the people."

In this exclusive interview with ARTISTdirect.com editor, Dolor author and major supporter of all things Aaron Lewis, Rick Florino, our hero, who has one of the most recognizable and room-filling voices in rock music today, talks about the genesis of "Outside," one of the biggest hits of his, well, hit-laden career. While he has experienced jaw-dropping success, that doesn't stop Lewis from embarking on a legit solo career with his forthcoming, rootsy/countrified album Town Line, the first single of which is the twangy, down-home but powerful "Country Boy." It's quintessential Lewis but with a new, and thrilling, twist.

Lewis talks about how he started playing bass at five, since his dad played guitar who offered some key words of wisdom by telling his impressionable son that there a million guitar players out there, and there aren't many bassists, so it's better to go out and be part of the rhythm section. But after two years, Lewis still wasn't comfortable sitting on the corner of his bed with a bass on his lap and still felt the urge to play guitar, and made the switch. It was the right decision, in hindsight, for sure.

Lewis will be on his acoustic tour through the Winter and Spring, and Town Line will be widely available as of March 1st. We recommend checking out one of his intimate gigs. You won't be let down.
