UK fans of Arcade Fire have been working themselves up to fever-pitch with the rumors of their favorite band swirling around a show on June 7th. Set to take place in Scunthorpe, a tiny town in the county of Lincolnshire, with a population of just 65 thousand people, news of the show broke via social media.
According to the a tweet from Arcade Fire fan site — Arcade Fire Tube — the band will appear at The Baths Hall for a one-off show.
The gig appears to be a warm-up for the Canadian band's headlining set at the Isle of Wight Festival which will take place just three days later on June 10th.
The thousand-seat venue responded to the speculation with a series of very cute tweets, clearly enjoying the unprecedented attention — suggesting the rumours were true. And now the band's official website has also confirmed the show.
News of this tiny show come after the weekend which saw the band play an intimate show in Montreal. The Montreal Gazette reported that the band played for approximately 50 audience members, sharing no less than six new songs in a selection that also featured tunes from The Suburbs and Reflektor.
Arcade Fire are set to launch a tour in Europe this summer, and whilst no release date for the new album has yet been officially announced the band shared a new song with Mavis Staples just last year, along with the promise that tunes were recorded but still in process.
You can check out that track "I Give You Power" below.
UPDATE: Following the confirmation of the gig at Scunthorpe Baths Hall Arcade Fire have confirmed another intimate set — and will be playing at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange — a 3000 capacity theatre on June 8th.
