Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace burned her birth certificate at the band's North Carolina concert, reports Consequence of Sound. "On Sunday night, Against Me! played their scheduled show at the Motorco Music Hall in Durham, North Carolina, where frontwoman Laura Jane Grace protested the bill by taking a lighter to her birth certificate and watched it burst into flames — complete with a gleeful "Goodbye, gender!" adieu."
Laura Jane Grace burned her birth certificate in protest of North Carolina's HB2 "Bathroom Bill," which "prohibits transgender people from using bathrooms and locker rooms that do not match the "biological sex" listed on their birth certificate," says Pitchfork. Other artists such as Ringo Starr and Bruce Springsteen cancelled their North Carolina shows in protest of the bill. Father John Misty has decided to take the same approach as Against Me! and will play a show in protest of the bill.
Against Me!'s tour is currently crisscrossing North America. Their next show is set for June 2nd in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After that, the band will play shows in New York City, Chicago, Toronto, and many more. The final show currently listed by the band is for August 20th in Richmond, Virginia at the seventh annual GWAR B-Q.
