Laura Jane Grace, lead singer of Against Me! can notch a victory on her belt since fashion retail giant Topshop has withdrawn a leather jacket from sale. The leather jacket, with a $700 price tag includes the band's logo, as well as the logo for The Vandals. However, according to Grace, Topshop didn't get permission to use the Against Me! logo or name on the garment.
On her twitter account Grace said, "Hey Topshop, you're selling a $700 leather jacket with my band's name on it and you have no permission. Not cool." Topshop's Twitter account responded, saying: "Hi there, we're looking into this. We have removed the jacket from our website and are currently withdrawing from stores."
Other corporate outlets have previously used rock band names and iconography on garments, The Ramones Guns N' Roses, and Nirvana among the acts to feature on items for sale in Topshop, H&M and even Walmart-owned supermarket ASDA. Rihanna won a legal battle against Topshop after they used her image on a T-shirt without her permission in 2015.
Currently enjoying success of the new album Shape Shift With Me, which was released on September 16 via Against Me! are preparing for a European tour that will commence on December 6 at the O2 Arena in Birmingham, UK and conclude on December on Dec 22 in Berlin at SO 36.
