Album of the Week: Slayer 'Repentless'

Out September 11th, 'Repentless' is Slayer's best work this century.
Throughout the catalog of rock, hard rock, metal, thrash, or any other moniker you'd like to supply to describe "music written on a guitar," nobody has been more consistently crushing than Slayer. That brings us to the thrash juggernaut's eleventh full-length studio offering, Repentless [Nuclear Blast], which invades stores on Friday September 11, 2015. It's taking Album of the Week right now though because it's that powerful.
During their first-ever team up with producer Terry Date [Pantera, Soundgarden, White Zombie, Deftones], Tom Araya [bass, vocals], Kerry King [guitar], returned-drummer Paul Bostaph, and Gary Holt [who's firing off some leads] tap into an unmitigated, undeniable, and unrepentant ferocity. Jeff Hanneman's 2013 passing still hangs over heavy metal. This is a man who penned some of the most recognizable riffs and songs that the genre has ever seen—and will. So, suffice it to say, the stakes were high for Slayer. Thankfully, they delivered, and they did so by getting even fierier.
