NYC singer-songwriter Alec Gross is releasing a 5-track EP, The Sorry Sorry Sun EP, on October 16, courtesy of Handsome Lady Records.
It's available on a "pay what you want" sliding scale, so do right by him. He worked to create and share this art, so make sure to support the arts and pay what you think it is worth.
Why should you plunk down coin for it? Well, in keeping with Handsome Lady's preferred practice of live-to-tape recordings, Gross' latest project was recorded live on a 1973 reel-to-reel, quarter-inch tape machine. So it's "classic" and "vintage," in terms of how it was recorded.
Their trusty reel-to-reel, which has no doubt recorded a wide range of music in its nearly 40-year career, is a helpful companion for Gross' latest effort, a spartan collection of story-songs featuring solo performances augmented by the accompaniment of fellow singer-songwriter Will Knox on banjitar and Will Hensley on mandolin. The results of their home-grown effort sound distinctly haunted, the tape machine helping to capture a ghostly set of songs-sparsely finger-picked songs and graced by Gross' soft, echoed vocals.
