Outkast frontman Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000, will hone his acting chops once again, this time starring alongside Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche in the upcoming sci-fi thriller High Life. The movie focuses on prison convicts shipped into space on a dangerous mission to explore a black hole, in exchange for which they will receive reduced sentences. The film will be directed by Claire Denis in her English language debut.
Benjamin previously featured in notable roles as one of Mark Wahlberg's brothers in Four Brothers, the piano player Percival in the musical Idlewild, and as Jimi Hendrix in the biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side. Outkast fans will have to be satisfied watching his films, as Benjamin recently stated that he may be hanging up his mic and leaving behind his music career entirely:
"The older you get, the slower you get — I don't care who you are. And I can feel that coming on. There's always a new wave of artists, and sometimes I'm just like, 'I'm good. I'll let the young guys do it.'...Even with Outkast — if we never do another album, I'm totally fine with that."
Pattinson, most famous for playing the anguished, perennially teenaged vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, is fresh off a widely praised performance as a bank robber in Good Time, which competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes this summer. The film received a limited release in the United States on August 11.
