Andrew Bird has announced a partnership with the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund. Bird is currently on tour in support of his forthcoming album Are You Serious, due out April 1st via Loma Vista. Bird will be donating $1 from every ticket sold on his tour to support the fund, which looks to reduce gun violence in America. Bird will also be selling a custom orange t-shirt whose proceeds will also go to the fund.
The color orange has become associated with the gun violence prevention movement due to the Wear Orange initiative. The initiative was started in Chicago, which is also where Andrew Bird is from. He stated in a press release, "I want everyone to be able to walk or bike the streets of my hometown without fear of gunfire. I want to help, somehow, though it’s hard to know how to do that. Everytown for Gun Safety is an organization that takes on this issue with the kind of intelligence and grasp of reality that it takes to make a difference. I am proud to support and I hope that their work can create some positive change. P.S. Wear Orange!"
Bird is currently on tour in North America, with his next concert set for April 1st in Knoxville, Tennessee. From there, he will play a variety of shows across the U.S. and Canada, making stops in Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, Toronto, Detroit and many more, before finishing the first part of his North American leg on April 22nd in St. Louis. He will then head to Europe for seven shows, before returning to North America on May 13th for a show in San Diego. Bird will wrap up his tour May 24th in Denver. For more on upcoming tours, check out:
