The U.S. Department of State invited original party rocker Andrew W.K. to the Middle East as a cultural ambassador. W.K. was slated to travel to Bahrain in December and visit elementary schools, the University of Bahrain, and music venues, "all while promoting partying and world peace," per his website.
Partying and world peace? Those are two of life's most important exploits.
Upon announcing the news, W.K.also said, "This is a tremendous invitation. I'm very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I've never been before. And I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying. I can hardly wait for this adventure!"
Turns out the State Department had a change of heart, with spokesperson Noel Clay saying that the trip was a "mistake and not appropriate." The invite was rescinded. Ouch!
W.K. said that the government planned the trip with for a year before pulling out because he is "too party."
Team W.K. or Team State Department?
