As expected by techno-enthusiasts and industry critics, yesterday Apple released its latest offering of new products featuring various improvements on the iPod MP3 player. First, CEO Steve Jobs announced the "iPod Touch", which will function the same way as an iPhone does complete with a multi-touch interface. The new model is available in an 8GB and 16GB model. There are also 80GB and 160GB iPod classic models (non-touch) now available.
Jobs also announced a price reduction in the coveted iPhone, lowering the price of the 8GB fashion accessory from the original $599 to $399. Passionate iPhans were up in arms about the reduction, considering it appeared on the market only two months ago.
After original iPhone owners blasted Jobs with hundreds of emails expressing outrage over the $200 price reduction, Jobs responded by issuing a statement which promised a $100 credit in the Apple store going towards any Apple purchase for "every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T." Jobs wrote, "iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season...now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone 'tent'."
After announce the rebate offer the CEO added, "We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple."
