Apple Shutters Ping

Another one bites the dust. Billboard reports that Apple will shut down Ping, its musical social network and recommendation service. It proved unsuccessful and never took off, and is therefore being shuttered.
The Ping service launched in Sept. 2010, allowing users to both follow and receive updates from artists and their friends. Users were already recommending and following via other social networking sites, like Twitter and Facebook, so the need for Ping was nil.
Apple will likely revert to focusing on relationships with the aforementioned social media giants.
