New York Times reports that Arcade Fire will donate up to $1 million Canadian (approximately $965,000 in US) to the ongoing relief and rebuilding effort in Haiti. The group, based in Montreal, announced the news at a show. "Please, take our money," frontman Win Butler reportedly said during a Quebec show, adding that $5 donations made by fans would be matched by the band. Arcade Fire singer, Régine Chassagne is the daughter of Haitians and she is Butler's wifey wife.

Donations will go to Kanpe, a nonprofit organization formed by Chassagne to help bring Canadian aid to Haiti's rural poor, including healthcare and financial assistance to families. Arcade Fire's new album, The Suburbs is due August 3.

How does an indie band come up with nearly $1 million in donation?
