Tue, 06 Mar 2012 11:34:11
Four members of the Grammy winning band Arcade Fire will give a lecture about Haiti's current socio-economic crisis at the University of Texas in Austin on March 19. How scholarly and academic of the Grammy winners. Why are they qualified to do so? Well, they have been doing a lot for he nation and one of the band members is Haitian.
According to RollingStone.com, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Will Butler and Marika Anthony-Shaw will discuss their volunteer efforts in the region and the nation's need for health care reform and First World aid. The musicians will also be urging the students to get involved with relief efforts. The country is still recovering from a devastating earthquake in 2010.
Haiti is the birthplace of singer Chassagne, so the band has certainly dedicated its efforts to the cause and for a good reason.
Also, Arcade Fire have raised well over $1 million dollars in proceeds from ticket sales and licensing for the cause. The band also played an intimate gig at the Hotel Oloffson in Port-Au-Prince last year. So it's not lip service. They put their money where their mouths are.
