Former Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader shifts from the board to a band after a 12-year hiatus.
Once Human will release their debut album The Life I Remember on September 4. Guitarist Logan Mader is a name that longtime metal fans will remember fondly. The guitarist wielded his axe in both Machine Head and Soulfly in the late '90s. He ultimately stepped away from life in a band to do production work, trading his guitar for a soundboard and a studio. He was happy and incredibly successful in this role. Until he met multi-instrumentalist Lauren Hart, who awakened a long-dormant beast within. You'll be glad she helped Mader shake off that slumber.
"We met up and discovered that our artistic visions had so much in common," Mader said about Hart. "Most of the productions I'm offered are subject to commercial aspects. But her vision was so pure, so unusual and passionate, I was immediately inspired. After a couple months and a few songs in, I was compelled to play again and join the band." And so Once Human was born.
The musical chemistry between Mader and Hart was so palpable that it pulled him out of band retirement. You know the sonic connection had to be pretty damn powerful and insanely high impact in order to bring the man back to active duty in service to metal within the confines of a band, as opposed to as a producer. Make no mistake. Mader has always pledged his allegiance to this genre, just in different and multiple capacities.
Musically, Once Human are as visceral as they are vicious. Hart is a vocal demoness, unleashing the beast that resides deep within her. She is in possession of a fierceness that will leave you shaking in your boots. Slay, lady, slay!
Hart is backed by Mader's intricate and snarling riffery.
The band has just released the new song "Terminal" and it'll have you headbanging with such ferocity that you will burst blood vessels in your neck… that is if you don't snap your neck first. Hart truly shines, spewing her vocal terror like bile that will vaporize anyone or anything it touches.
She is a heavy metal femme fatale, but it's not all about her. There are solos, dirty, gnarly riffs, Eurometal-influenced melodies and the kind of pummeling percussion that feels like a series of Floyd Mayweather fists to the face.
