Asking Alexandria progress by leaps and bounds on "Run Free", the first taste of their forthcoming third album. Make no mistake, if you love Stand Up and Scream and Reckless & Relentless, you're really going to love this. It's as if the British quintet took all of the most dynamite elements of their sound and wired them for atomic impact. "Run Free" sees Asking Alexandria raise the stakes quite brilliantly.
The electronics swell and swirl with an orchestral bombast, while Ben Bruce and Cameron Liddell tear through a distinct distorted crunch and massive groove that tempers rough thrash with a modern panache. The song segues from all-out war in the beginning into a strangely soothing hook from Danny Worsnop. He comes front-and-center as one of the best young voices out there, carrying the refrain to divine heights and then down into a blissful darkness on the bridge.
Everybody laments the death of rock 'n' roll, hard rock, metal, or whatever you want to call it. However, with bands like Asking Alexandria roaming free, it's hard to take that seriously. They deserve to be at the top of the genre, and they're on their way to domination with this one.
