AT&T Employees Get In Trouble At ‘American Idol’ Parties

A pair of American Idol parties in Arkansas have been cited as having access to demo phones from AT&T employees—phones with the ability to “power text.” In other words, they can send several votes at once. Not enough to give Kris Allen his edge over Adam Lambert, however. According to a joint statement by Fox and its producer, FremantleMedia, last week’s results were “fair, accurate and verified” by a third party.
“In no way did any individuals unfairly influence the outcome of the competition,” the statement read. “Kris Allen is, without a doubt, the American Idol.”
“Going forward, we will make sure our employees understand our sponsorship celebrates the competition, not individual contestants,” a spokesman for AT&T said in a separate statement. “That said, it's quite a leap to suggest that a few individuals could have impacted the final results.”
