Former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama returned to his hometown of Chicago on Wednesday to reveal plans for his presidential library. It's an ambitious project that reflects Obama's run in office - it's expansive and it redefines what a library can offer. Plans detail much more than just a lending library, there's set to be a recording studio, and a significant inclusion of all arts.

Redefining the traditional profile and amenities of past presidential libraries, the Barack Obama Presidential Center will be a multi-building campus of labs, outdoor spaces, and classrooms "that provide visitors with experiences that inspire and tools to make things happen in their own communities."

Also detailed in the designs are a number of public performance spaces, a recreation center with basketball courts, a restaurant, food trucks, and even film and recording studios.

Obama spoke specifically about inviting filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Spike Lee and musicians like Chance the Rapper and Bruce Springsteen to the campus to offer seminars in creating movies and music.

"We want this to be the world's premiere institution for training young people and leadership to make a difference in their communities in their countries and in the world — that's our goal," Obama explained.

Earmarked as the location for The Barack Obama Presidential Center is Jackson Park, with the expectation of opening in 2021. The former president said the center will create upwards of 1,500 jobs and bring millions of dollars in much-needed revenue to Chicago's South Side.

You can check out a video of the proposed campus below.

Ahead of his announcement, the Obama Foundation shared a new Spotify playlist which focused on the Chicago music scene, curated by the likes of Mavis Staples, Chance the Rapper, Nick Offerman, and others. Seems like Obama can't stop his love of curating cool mixtapes.
