Just recently we enjoyed the Beatles sharing news of the Sgt. Peppers 50th anniversary with a set of discs containing outtakes and rarities that have to be heard to be believed. Now, a similarly innovative band from the era is dropping another set of musical delights.

The Beach Boys have unearthed a whole bunch of unreleased tracks and rarities from their post-Pet Sounds days. The music will appear in a new two-disc box set. Released on June 30th 1967 — Sunshine Tomorrow will be distributed by Capitol/UMe.

The new collection will gather recordings from the Smiley Smile and Wild Honey sessions — two albums which the band began having dropped the famously unfinished album Smile. In addition to 1967 — Sunshine Tomorrow a 180 gram vinyl edition of Wild Honey will also be released on the same day, marking the 50th anniversary of the album's first release.

A whole host of previously unreleased alternate takes and highlights from the Wild Honey sessions will appear on Disc one of 1967 — Sunshine Tomorrow. The sessions, which took place in September and November have been handled here by producers Alan Boyd and Mark Linett — who have also produced the first stereo mix of Wild Honey for the new box set, which also includes several unreleased live recordings from the same year.

Disc Two of the set will contain Smiley Smile alternate takes and a previously unreleased Beach Boys live album Lei'd in Hawaii. During August of 1967 the band recorded two concert rehearsals in Honolulu but decided that the tapes were unusable. They would go on to re-record a live in-studio set in Hollywood. The recordings were completed and mixed, but a canned audience track was never added, so the project was scrapped. Those tracks would go on to inspire the band to record Wild Honey.

Lei'd in Hawaii contains live in-studio performances of wide-ranging material from across the Beach Boys' catalog, as well as songs that would later appear on Wild Honey. Disc two of the Sunshine Tomorrow set also includes a handful of tracks from the original Honolulu recordings, as well as previously unreleased live material recorded in Washington D.C. and Boston in November 1967.
