Fans have been eagerly anticipating new music from Beady Eye (Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock). The wait will be over for North American audiences when Dangerbird Records releases the debut album from the band on March 1st. Different Gear, Still Speeding features 13 brand new songs written by the band and recorded at RAK Studios in London last Fall.
In addition to the U.S. and Canadian releases on Dangerbird Records, Different Gear, Still Speeding will be released worldwide outside of North America on the band's own Beady Eye Records, and boasts "The Roller" as its first official single. We've got some audio visual treats for Canadian and U.S. fans, who can view "The Roller" video here. Click here for an Mp3 of "The Roller."
I cannot help but wonder if the title of the album is prophetic, given the bratty public antics of the Gallagher Brothers and Oasis. Beady Eye was formed by three former members of Oasis, including enigmatic front man and lead vocalist Liam Gallagher. They will be joined by Matt Jones on keyboards and Jeff Wootton on bass for these dates. U.S. dates are being finalized and fans can sign up here to be the first to receive the news.
Did you download "The Roller?" What did you think? I checked it out, of course, and it surely reminds me of the time when Oasis were being touted as the heir apparent to their fellow countrymen in The Beatles, which borders on blasphemy depending on who you ask and on what day! That said, Gallagher still sounds like a virile John Lennon and his bandmates knack for melody is as robust and as unforgettable as ever. Maybe those Beatles comparisons weren't so outlandish after all! This mid-tempo rock jam certainly pays homage to what a modern day Beatles would sound like and the piano mid-section camped out in my cranium for about three hours after the final notes of the song faded out. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from ARTISTdirect.com.
