Best Buy Breaks Into Music Center Market

Best Buy has announced an extensive plan to open as many as 85 music centers by the end of the year, with even more expected in the near future. The initiative will drop about 2,500 square feet of music equipment in each store, including such respected brands as Gibson, Fender, Drum Workshop and Roland, as well as everything from keyboards to DJ equipment to guitar amps.
"We're not just extending the shelf space in the store, we're creating a designated area specifically for this experience," Kevin Balon, Best Buy's vice president of musical instruments, said in a statement. "And we're trying to create an authentic and genuine musical instrument store look and feel inside of Best Buy."
Once the company's initial expansion is complete—some products will hit the 'net as early as a couple weeks—Best Buy will become the country's second-largest music instrument retailer.
"However you want to play, if play means you're just learning and you want to play with a bunch of buddies, or you want to play on stage, we can support any of that," Balon said.
