Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Blake Shelton, and a slew of other stars are set to take part in a telethon to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey. Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief will air live September 12th at 5 pm PT on ABC, CBS, CMT, Fox, and NBC, and will stream live on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 storm just over a week ago, devastating large parts of Houston and the surrounding areas. The storm surge and rain resulted in catastrophic flooding that has caused at least 65 deaths across Texas and Louisiana.
Last week, Beyonce had announced she will "help as many" victims as she can via her BeyGOOD foundation. The one hour television special will feature performances and messages from a variety of other celebrities, including George Clooney, Oprah, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Julia Roberts, Adam Sandler, Ryan Seacrest, Karlie Kloss, Rob Lowe, Michael Strahan, Barbra Streisand and Reese Witherspoon. Country legend George Strait will be holding a benefit concert in San Antonio during the telethon, and will join the show via a live performance.
Hand in Hand was organized by Houston rapper Bun B and Scooter Braun. Proceeds from the telethon will benefit various charities including the United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Direct Relief, Feeding Texas and the Mayor's Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief. Those wishing to donate can do so via phone, text message, and online from the beginning of the show through one hour after the telethon ends.
Bun B, Solange and Fall Out Boy have all planned separate benefit concerts to raise money for victims, as well. Celebrities have already given to the cause, including Miley Cyrus' Happy Hippie Foundation, which donated $500,000, and Houston Texans football player J.J. Watt, whose fundraiser has collected over $20 million in donations.
