It was a busy weekend for Beyoncé. Prior to stealing the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, Sasha Fierce released her first new music since the Platinum Edition of her fifth studio album, Beyoncé. The debut of "Formation" also came with a new music video. After her Super Bowl halftime performance, the singer announced The Formation World Tour.
The new track is supposedly a Tidal exclusive, but is also offered as a free download from Tidal's website. The track was produced by Mike WiLL Made It and was co-written with Rae Sremmurd's Swae Lee. The music video features Beyoncé in different locations across New Orleans and was directed by Melina Matsoukas. The track and video was released on Saturday, February 6th on the eve of her Super Bowl 50 performance.
Queen B joined Coldplay and Bruno Mars on stage for the most-watched halftime show in the world. She joined the show by performing "Formation" for the first time. Later, the three stars concluded the performance with a medley of Coldplay's "Fix You" and "Up&Up."
Immediately following the halftime show, a commercial announced Beyonce's upcoming all-stadium world tour. Beginning on April 27th at Miami, Florida's Marlins Park, the concert series currently lists 37 performances, wrapping July 31st in Brussels, Belgium. The tour will be stopping in both North America and Europe, with U.S. shows scheduled for Atlanta, Houston, Philadelphia, and a slew of others, as well as performances planned for the U.K., Germany, France, and a variety of other Western European and Scandinavian locales.
