The Big Chill festival is on ice. The festival set for the UK in August has been canceled due to the Olympic Games, which are taking place in London. Hey, when you are the host city for the most watched sporting competitions of the year, some things have to suffer, right?
The www.NME.com reports that Big Chill festival boss Melvin Benn has said that the yearly event, which takes place at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, Herefordshire, is iced this year.
Here is the statement about the Big Chill Festival:
"I looked long and hard late last year at moving the date so it didn't clash with the Olympics but the mix of the festival fans desire to keep the date and an inability to find an alternative date that works I plumped for maintaining the existing weekend. Sadly, the artist availability and confirmations we were achieving led me to conclude that I couldn't risk going ahead with the event as an outdoor event this year. Efforts are being made to look to bring a smaller event indoors this year with the anticipation of The Big Chill being back outdoors in 2013."
The event was set to take place Aug 2 through Aug. 5. Fans that have already bought tickets for the festival should contact their vendor with regards to a refund.
What do you think of the Olympics interfering with a music fest?
