Man, why does Sofia, Bulgaria get all the fun? I bet you just busted out an atlas or some form of GPS to find out where the hell Sofia, Bulgaris is! Why am I talking about Sofia, Bulgaris? Simple. This week's Sonisphere Festival cinecast, which was broadcast in hundreds of movie theaters globally, boasted the history-in-the-making "Big Four of Metal Show," with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax sharing the same stage. In Sofia, Bulgaria. They said it would never happen, but "they" were apparently wrong. It is a shock to think that Metallica and Megadeth would play the same location, on the same bill, at the same time, given Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine's long ago, acrimonious split with Metallica, but it happened. Thousands of miles away from the metalheads in the US dying to see this event.
Apparently, metal fans cared, as 100,000 fans attended the cinecast, according to promoter Stuart Galbraith. The event was beamed via satellite in HD into hundreds of movie theaters globally. "That was quite incredible, the first time into the market," Galbraith told Billboard "To have those four bands all on the same bill for the first time ever was a very special moment." A DVD of the cinema presentation is set to be released later this year. That's great, but how about a full on tour of America featuring the Big Four?
Who is your favorite metal band?
