Andy Hummel, who played bass guitar in power-pop icons Big Star, has died of cancer at age 59. Hummel died just four months after singer Alex Chilton passed away at 59, as well. Drummer Jody Stephens remains the only surviving member of the band, as singer-songwriter Chris Bell passed away after a car crash in 1978.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Hummel and the extended Big Star family.
