Billy Bob Thornton Cancels Canadian Run

Billy Bob Thornton’s band, The Boxmasters, has decided to cancel the rest of their Canadian tour “due to one band member and several of the crew having the flu.” This according to a statement on Willie Nelson’s Web site, which contradicted reports that the group might be pulling out of their support slot due to Thornton’s rough interview on CBC radio’s “Q” program.
Speaking to host Jian Ghomeshi, Thornton said, “Canadian audiences seem to be very reserved. We tend to play places where people throw things at each other. Here, they just sort of sit there. And it doesn't matter what you say to 'em. ... It's mashed potatoes but no gravy.”
Thornton later clarified that his potatoes comment was directed at Ghomeshi himself, not Canadians in general. That said, the Boxmasters’ Toronto gig last Thursday included lots of booing and cries of “here comes the gravy” from the crowd.
