Billy Joel Set for Madison Square Garden Show Residency in 2014

Native New Yorker Billy Joel will return to the World's Most Famous Arena --aka Madison Square Garden-- on January 27. He is doing a residency where he plays a show there each month as long as there is demand, and there is plenty of that since the shows are selling out.
Joel held the record for the most sold-out shows at the venue when he played 12 gigs in 2006.
And he last performed at MSG as part of last year's 12-12-12 gig for Hurricane Sandy victims.
Now he is in residency.
The residency kicks off January 27, 2014 and continues with additional shows on February 3, March 21, April 18 and May 9. It's not certain when additional shows will be booked, but there is no concrete end date to the residency. At the press conference, organizers said the shows would continue "as long as there is demand."
In a statement, Joel said, "Performing at Madison Square Garden is a thrilling experience. I've played different venues all over the world, but there's no place like coming home to The Garden. Since my first show in 1978, I've always looked forward to the energy of the crowd. I'm honored to be joining the Madison Square Garden family and look forward to taking the stage of the newly transformed Garden to create many more memorable nights."
He will also perform at the venue on his 65th birthday, which is May 9.
The Piano Man is performing at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on New Year's Eve. So he is in a New York State of Mind in 2014.
