Blaqk Audio On Working With Raw Material, Robert Smith, And AFI

Growing up on a steady diet of synth-saturated '80s bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode, AFI's Davey Havok and Jade Puget always knew they had more in common than the hardcore punk of their multi-platinum primary group. It took a decade, however, before the pair began writing music for their electronic side project, Blaqk Audio, and six years after that before they released their first album, 2007's CexCells.
It's been all woodshedding since then, and Blaqk Audio's latest effort, their third full length album, Material, dropped last month. ARTISTdirect's Gwendolyn Elliott caught up with Puget to talk about its influences, themes, textures, and where The Cure fits into it all.
