Blink-182 Says Tom DeLonge Quit Band, He Says He Hasn't

blink-182 vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge has quit the band... unexpectedly.
That is, according to reports from the rhythm section -- drummer Travis Barker and bassist Mark Hoppus, who spoke about DeLonge's exit in a statement, saying, "We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason. A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio, we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn't want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors."
Hmmm. That's peculiar… the fact that it was done via management liaison emails... these guys have been a band forevs. But business is business, even when that business is a band.
The band also said, "No hard feelings, but the show must go on for our fans."
Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba will fill in for DeLonge on the band's upcoming appearance at the Musink Tattoo and Music Festival, which Barker curated and is set for March 20 through 22 in Costa Mesa, California.
While we don't know if Skiba is a permanent replacement, he will tour and record with the band for the foreseeable future.
Then DeLonge himself issued a statement, saying he hasn't left.
"I never quit the band," DeLonge said. "Actually, I was on the phone discussing a possible Blink-182 event in New York City when I heard the 'news.' The ONLY truth here is that I have commitments that limit my availability this year. I love Blink-182 and I'm not leaving."
So there's that.
What do you think of this shocking pop punk news? And are you down with Skiba stepping in for DeLonge in Blink-182?
