The whole reason for doing a side project when you have an incredibly successful, hip band is to flex and stretch and bulk up your creative muscles – no steroids, please. Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke is exploring his fondness and affinity for all things electronic on his upcoming solo debut, The Boxer, reports Spinner. The singer told the site that the album has 10 tracks and dabbles in vocal house and 2-step garage genres, which are more popular than God in the UK. And of course, among Brooklyn-based hipsters that drink copious amounts of coffee and wear secondhand clothes.
The Boxer was penned and then committed to tape in 2009, when Okereke had some time off from his beloved band and their hectic touring schedule. He recorded everything himself. The Boxer is out June 22 through Glass Note Records.
If you are a Bloc Party fan, are you going to check out Okereke's solo stuff? Or would you rather just listen to BP records and skip this chapter in the career of the singer?
