Iconic blues guitarist Johnny Winter, who began his career in his teens, has died. He was just 70 years old.
While details about his passing are scarce, it is known that Winter died in Zurich, Switzerland. He was on tour. At least he went out doing what he loved.
"His wife, family and bandmates are all saddened by the loss of one of the world's finest guitarists," Winter's rep said. "An official statement with more details shall be issued at the appropriate time." Understood.
Winter, who was high profile in the 1960s and 1970s, released nearly 20 albums throughout his career. His final album Step Back is due out September 2 and it boasts guests appearances by Eric Clapton, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Aerosmith's Joe Perry, among others, and has a release date of September 2. We wonder if the release date will stand and if we can honor him posthumously by listening to his most recent music.
R.I.P., Mr. Winter.
