U2 had to cancel a planned week-long residency on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week when singer Bono had a cycling accident in NYC's Central Park. It was no joke, as the singer had to have three metal plates and 18 screws inserted in his arm as a result of the accident.

Bono was rushed to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and underwent five hours of surgery to his upper arm. So the band was not bailing on the residency capriciously. He was fucked up!

Dr. Dean Lorich told Rolling Stone, "The bone of his humerus was driven though his skin and the bone was in six different pieces. He was taken emergently to the operating room for a five-hour surgery Sunday evening where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws."

    Ouch!

Bono also sustained a fracture to his left eye, a fractured shoulder blade and a cracked little finger on his left hand, on which he had surgery.

The singer will have to have some intense therapy, but will fully recover.

So, yeah, Bono was fucked up in that accident.

    Get better soon!

What is your fave U2 song?
